Variolite rock that has been cut open and polished. Variolites are igneous rocks, formed by the cooling of molten rock. They are identified by the dark green colour of the main rock, and the lighter coloured spots. Their composition can vary, but it is thought they are composed of feldspar encased in a glassy mineral. This sample is 7.5 by 6 centimetres in size.
