Crystals of dolomite (foreground) and magnesite (background). Dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate) varies in colour from colourless to white, pink or yellow and is a basic constituent of sedimentary carbonate rocks. Magnesite (magnesium carbonate) is usually found in a compact or microcrystalline form and only very rarely in large colourless crystals such as this. It is an important ore of magnesium.
