Caption

A specimen of the mineral vanadinite (lead vanadate chloride). This mineral is found as small, hexagonal prisms, usually barrel-shaped. It is bright red to orange in colour. Vanadinite is a secondary mineral found in the oxidation zone of lead deposits. It is used in metal alloys and in the making of dyes and mordants.
