Caption

Polished pieces of green jadeite (jade). Jadeite (sodium aluminium iron silicate) usually occurs in compact, waxy masses; crystals are very rare. It can range in colour from white through yellow and green to black, according to its iron content. It is found in Burma, Tibet, southwestern China, Guatemala, California and Japan. Jade is a term used in the gem industry to refer to two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Jadeite is much more valuable than nephrite.
