A polished slab of malachite. Malachite (hydrous copper carbonate) is a secondary mineral found in the oxidation zones of copper deposits. It is a valuable decorative stone used to make small tables, boxes, ornaments and jewellery. In the past it was crushed and used as an inorganic pigment known as mountain green.
