Quartz. Cluster of clear quartz crystals. Quartz is a form of silica (silicon dioxide, Si.O2). It occurs naturally all over the world as sand, and in rocks and mineral veins. Pure quartz is colourless, as seen here. It has many desirable properties and consequently has many applications. Quartz is a constituent of glass and porcelain and an important raw material in the electronics industry.
