Uncut emeralds. Uncut emeralds (green) in rock. Emerald is a variety of the mineral beryl. It is composed of beryllium aluminium silicates. Emerald occurs mostly in veins of clay and limestones. It is a precious gem when cut and polished, with fine examples commanding high prices.
