Fluorite crystals, under ultraviolet light. Also called fluorspar, this is a mineral form of calcium fluoride. This mineral fluoresces when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. The incoming UV light is absorbed and the energy released in the form of visible light, here blue. This sample is from Cumberland, in the UK.
