Early hominid. Artwork of Sahelanthropus tchadensis, a Miocene ape. Nicknamed Toumai, fossils of the ape were discovered in Chad between 2001 and 2002 by Michel Brunet. The fossils have been dated to around 7 million years old. The exact relationship of this species to modern human is still debated.
