Homo erectus men. Models of Homo erectus men, an early type of human. Homo erectus, or erect man, lived around 1.8-0.3 million years ago and originated in Africa. They were the first humans to leave Africa, reaching Asia and possibly southern Europe. H. erectus had prominent brow ridges and a projecting face, and some specimens had brain volumes of over a litre. They stood upright, being a bit shorter than modern humans, but more heavily-built. They were nomadic hunters and gatherers. These models, from an exhibition by Nordstar, were photographed at the Naturkundemuseum in Stuttgart, Germany.
