Caption

Molybdenum, a hard, silvery transition metal used in alloy steels. It is extracted from the minerals molybdenite (molybdenum IV sulphide), powellite and wulfenite. Purified molybdenum IV sulphide is an excellent lubricant when in the form of a dry film or as an additive to oil or grease. Molybdenum was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1778 and has the chemical symbol Mo.
