Fossil leaves of the seed plant Alethopteris lonchitidis, found in a quarry near Whiteheaven, Cumberland. These plants are particularly frequent in the Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian strata in Europe and North America. The fronds are multi-pinnate with alternating simple and forking lateral veins leading from the conspicuous main stem.
