Fossilized male catkin of a Cordaites tree found in the Pennsylvanian (Upper-Carboniferous) layers. Cordaites shoots have either male or female flowers with an inflorescence that is unisexual. Both types are commonly called Cordaianthus. Mazon Creek area, Illinois.
