Money changes hands at the Fossil Fair in Tuscon, Arizona. The tray of ammonites seen here was sold for $2,000. Commercial paleontology is frowned upon by many academics, but has in the past bought to light many new and very fine fossil species. The commercial collectors may only retrieve fossils from private land, however, as US laws require a special licence to collect on public land. A fully mounted and complete dinosaur skeleton can fetch as much as $350,000.
