Fossil fish (Knightia eos) from the Eocene period (between 55 and 38 million years ago). These bony fish (teleosts) lived in shoals in sub-tropical freshwater lakes. They are thought to have fed on algae, insects and smaller fish. Knightia sp. were small fish, around 10 centimetres in length.
