Archegosaurus decheni fossil. This amphibian, which lived in the Permian period (280-248 million years ago), was the first vertebrate to begin the conquest of solid ground. The fossil was found in deposits in Saarland, Germany. Taken from Mines and Miners L. Simonin, 1868.
