Allosaurus dinosaur model. Allosaurus lived in North America about 140 million years ago. It was an agile hunter, running on powerful hind legs with long toes while using its muscular tail to maintain balance. The smaller front legs were equipped with sharp claws that were probably used to tear victims open. Its dagger-like curved teeth had distinctive serrated edges designed to rip through flesh. Like other carnivores Allosaurus had a relatively large brain, suggesting acute vision and a keen sense of smell. Adults grew up to 12 metres long and 2 tonnes in weight.
