Ankylosaurus model. View of a model of the dinosaur ankylosaurus (Ankylosaurus sp.). This heavily-armoured dinosaur lived in the early Mesozoic era, in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, between about 200 and 70 million years ago. They were herbivorous dinosaurs, and the spiked armour served as protection against the carnivores of the day. Ankylosaurs also possessed a heavy club-like tail, which could be swung at attackers to injure their legs. Photographed at Calgary Zoo, Canada.
