Tyrannosaurus rex. Artwork of a Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur. Tyrannosaurus ("tyrant reptile") was the largest terrestrial carnivore ever, reaching five metres in height and about seven tonnes in weight. Its teeth were up to 15 centimetres long. T. rex was one of the last dinosaurs to evolve, appearing for a few million years before it became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago.
