Stygimoloch dinosaur. Artwork of a Stygimoloch dinosaur. This herbivorous pachycephalosaurus (thick-headed) dinosaur lived around 70 million years ago, in the late Cretaceous period. The horns around its thick skull may have been ornamental, for use in mating displays. The thick skull allowed head-butting, possibly to establish a social order within a group, or for defence.
