Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur. Computer artwork of the skeleton of a T. rex dinosaur. T. rex was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, measuring approximately 5 metres tall and weighing around 7 tonnes. It walked on two legs and may have reached a running speed of 24 kilometres per hour. It lived in North America and Asia during the late Cretaceous period, around 85 to 65 million years ago. A predator and scavenger, T. rex had the strongest bite of any dinosaur, with teeth that could penetrate bone.
