San rock art depicting hunters marching. The San people (also known as Bushmen) who painted these pictographs once inhabited all of southern Africa. They were displaced by the Bantu people into the deserts and high mountain country. European settlers, arriving in the interior from the coast of southern Africa, drove the mountain San to extinction by the start of the twentieth century. The rock paintings were thought to be around 1000 years old, but more recent research estimates that they are nearer 3000 years old. Photographed in Cobham Nature Reserve, Natal Drakensberg Park, South Africa.
