Mount Everest seen from space. This view was taken by the crew of Shuttle Mission STS-58 of 18 October to 1 November 1993. Mount Everest is almost exactly in the centre of the frame; only its south-east face is brightly lit. At 8848 metres, Mount Everest is the world's tallest peak. It is the principal peak of the Himalayas range, and is on the border between Nepal and China.
