Mountains, Turkey, infrared satellite image. North is at top. Snow (white) covers the peaks of these mountains that rise over 2000 metres high. They are part of the Taurus Mountains of Turkey. In the lowlands (lower left), fields are seen along the upper reaches of the Tigris River in Iraq. This 180-kilometre-wide image was taken on 22 November 1972, in visible and infrared wavelengths, with the Multispectral Scanner (MSS) sensor on NASA's Landsat 1 satellite.
