Caption

Danube Delta. Infrared satellite image of the Danube Delta (Delta Dunarii), Romania. North is at top. Water is blue and black, and vegetation is red. The three rivers at left mark the braided final stretch of the River Danube through its delta and into the Black Sea (right). A delta is a large, often fan-shaped depositional feature that sometimes forms where a river meets an open body of water. The river-carried sediment (bright blue) being deposited in the Black Sea may continue the delta's growth. The data for this image were collected by the French SPOT 4 satellite on 25 July 1999.
