Wheat plants. Ripe ears of durum wheat (Triticum durum). Wheat is one of the world's major cereal crops. The grains (inside the husks that form the ear structure at the end of each stalk) contain carbohydrates (which are a source of energy), and are used to make flour for breads and pasta. Durum wheat has a high protein content, and is mostly used for pasta. Photographed in Saskatchewan, Canada.
