Wheat plants. Ripe ears of soft red winter wheat (Triticum aestivum). Wheat is one of the world's major cereal crops. The grains (inside the husks that form the ear structure at the end of each stalk) contain carbohydrates (which are a source of energy), and are used to make flour for breads and pasta. This variety of wheat is bred for its high yield and resistance to disease. Photographed in Arkansas, USA.
