Millet (Pancium miliaceum). Hand holding ears of harvested millet. Millet has been used as a food for both man and domestic animals since the Stone Age. It is grown throughout Europe, Asia and the USA and is the chief cereal in many parts of Africa. It is popular as it grows on less fertile land and takes only two to three months to produce its carbohydrate-rich seed. Photographed in Chad.
