Boys playing in harvested maize. The maize (Zea mays) kernels were unloaded into the grain cart by the combine harvester (upper centre), a machine used to cut and thresh (beat) maize plants to isolate the grain. Maize grain may be ground into flour, used for its oil, or used as food for animals. Photographed in Illinois, USA.
