Herbicide application. Field of mid-growth cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) plants being sprayed with herbicide. The yellow tanks contain a reservoir of herbicide, which is applied to several rows of plants simultaneously through sprayers on the green arms. Hoods around the sprayers ensure that the herbicide is targeted down to the ground instead of being blown away by the wind. Herbicides are applied to crops to prevent the growth of weeds, which may compete for light and nutrients and therefore reduce crop yield. Photographed in Arkansas, USA.
