Pesticide research. Researcher testing a pesticide as part of a UK government research project to reduce the amounts of pesticides sprayed on agricultural crops. The system being tested here is the PatchSpray controller from the UK company Micron Sprayers. The pesticide is being pumped with a vacuum pump (GEM 1.0, blue box) mounted on a tractor. The pesticide then passes through nozzles mounted on the horizontal beams protruding either side of the tractor, forming a spray that settles on the crops. The system was tested at the Silsoe Institite, and announced in 2004.
