Tokyo Bay and its surroundings. This view, looking north, was made by combining Landsat satellite images with local contour data. The Tokyo/Yokohama metropolitan area occupies the far side of Tokyo Bay just right of centre, its block-shaped port facilities clearly defined. Running through Tokyo is the Arakawa-hosuiro river. Just behind Tokyo is another river, Tone-gawa, which runs toward the peninsula at far right. The low-lying, flat landscape on this side contrasts with the volcanic highlands to the left. The prominent feature next to Saruga Bay (far left) is Mount Fuji (3776m). The island in the foreground is Oshima.
