Reykjavik. Infrared SPOT satellite image of Reykjavik (top right, blue), Iceland's capital and chief port. North is towards the top. Vegetation appears red, water blue-black, sand and soil off- white, snow white, grassland brown. Reykjavik is situated on Faxa Bay on the southwest coast of Iceland. Its international airport is located at Keflavik (lower left). A smaller airfield can be seen in Reykjavik. Note the city's small size, reflecting Iceland's small population (just over a quarter of a million, around 100,000 of whom live in the capital). Image data gathered by one of the French SPOT satellites.
