Abu Dhabi. Infrared satellite image of Abu Dhabi (at upper left), capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). North is at top. In this infrared image water appears blue/black, sandy areas yellow, bare ground brown/grey, vegetation red and buildings grey. In the north-west and south-east of the city are deepwater harbour facilities. At lower and far right are the city's airports. Abu Dhabi, which is on an island in the Persian Gulf, is the commercial and administrative centre of the UAE. The UAE has major reserves of oil. Image taken by a French SPOT satellite in December. The smallest visible image is 20 metres across.
