London. Infrared SPOT satellite image of London, capital of England. North is at top. In this view, vegetation appears red, built-up areas are light blue/grey, and water is dark grey/blue. Central London is at centre left. The River Thames runs through it from west to east. In a bend of the Thames at centre left is the Millennium Dome (white circle) which will hold a large exhibition to celebrate the arrival of the year 2000. The Dome is around 320 metres wide, and is designed to hold over 40, 000 visitors at any one time. Image resolution: 20 metres. Image taken in June by the French SPOT-2 satellite.
