On 11th September 2001, terrorists flew two hijacked passenger planes into the two towers of this building in New York City, USA. Both collapsed around an hour later. Fires (red dots) are seen burning in the wreckage. Thousands of people are believed to have been killed. Coloured combined optical and infrared SPOT 4 satellite image, taken 3 hours after the impacts. SPOT 4 orbits the Earth at a height of 822 kilometres. Image E780/794 shows New York before the attack.
