London. Satellite image of the centre of London, the capital city of the UK. North is at top. This area is about 12 kilometres across, forming the central part of the much larger area of Greater London. Part of the River Thames (across centre) is seen, flowing from Wandsworth Bridge (left) to Greenwich (right). The most densely built area is the City of London, on the northern banks of the River Thames, just above and right of centre. Two large parks are seen at upper left (Regents Park) and centre left (Hyde Park). London is one of the largest cities in the world. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 8 August 2003.
