Atmospheric pollution. Satellite image of aerosol pollution (grey haze) above India and Bangladesh. This suspension of liquid and solid particles lies over the southern edge of the Himalayan mountains (white, upper frame) in India, and south over Bangladesh (centre right) and the Bay of Bengal (blue, lower frame). Most aerosols are generated by humans, vehicle emissions and industrial activities both contributing heavily to air pollution. The haze contains smoke and dust composed of a range of pollutant chemicals including sulphates, nitrates and carbon. Image taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer on NASA's Terra Platform.
