Contaminated river. Aerial photograph of the Landeyjar river, Iceland, contaminated with iron. The volcanic landscape through which the river flows is rich in minerals, especially iron. This iron dissolves into solution, which colours the water yellow. The banks of the river where the water has evaporated has become stained deep orange (some at centre right) due to iron oxides (rust).
