Marine rubbish on an Arctic shoreline. The rubbish, mainly plastics and fishing nets, comes ashore from the north Atlantic Ocean. This illustrates the global nature of sea pollution. The fishing nets are a major threat to marine wildlife, especially seals. The logs seen here, on the island of Danskoya in Svalbard, have mostly floated from the timber production areas of Siberia.
