Water analysis. Hand dipping a paper tester into a glass of water. Testing water can be used as a guide to pollution levels. In this test, the tip of the paper has been coated in a chemical which will change colour if the water is polluted. If the water is from a river or stream, tests can show if there is any contamination along its length, and help pinpoint the source. Drinking water has to meet standards of cleanliness and purity, and is constantly analysed to ensure the standards are met.
