Water pollution tests. Environmental researcher using a standard testing kit to test samples of water taken from a river. This sort of test is carried out to monitor the levels of pollutants in a river and allow an assessment of the quality of the water, both for use as drinking water and as a habitat for plants and animals, such as the swans at left. This worker is an employee of Severn Trent Services, an environmental services company specialising in water and wastewater treatment technologies. Severn Trent Services is a global company based in the USA, but which originated in the UK and is named after the UK's Trent and Severn rivers. Severn Trent formed in 1974 as a UK government water authority. It was privatized in 1989.
