Seashell trade. The sale of seashells and coral to tourists has been targeted by the Ministry of the Environment in Djibouti. While the trade can bring in a profitable income for local merchants , it is damaging to the marine ecosystem of the Indian ocean that surrounds the country's coastline. This could have devestating long-term effects on the country's economy which relies heavily on tourism.
