Caption

Leg fracture. Coloured X-ray of a fracture through the fibula (thinner, left) and tibia or shin (thicker, right) bones of the lower leg. Surgical equipment is seen around the X-ray, including forceps, scissors, a scalpel, a pair of tweezers and a hypodermic syringe. Broken bones are usually treated by being reset into the correct position and held in place by a plaster cast while they heal.
