Potassium. Chunks of the alkali metal potassium (K) stored under oil. It is a soft, highly- reactive metal, which is not found free in nature. At room temperature it oxidises in air and reacts violently with water, including moisture in the atmosphere. It is the seventh most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It is essential for plant growth and a vital element in human diet.
