Seashell. Shell of an unidentified sea snail. This shell is a calcium-rich structure secreted by a gastropod mollusc for protection. The animal can withdraw entirely into its shell when threatened. The chambers at the apex are the oldest, with successively larger whorls being added as the animal grows.
