Polonium-210 discs. This isotope of polonium is a powerful emitter of alpha particle radiation. Polonium (atomic number: 84, symbol: Po) has more isotopes than any other element and is closely related chemically to bismuth and tellurium. It is used as a heat source for thermoelectric power in space satellites, as a neutron source, for eliminating static charges in textile mills, and on brushes for removing dust from photographic films. In November 2006, Polonium-210 was named as the poison used to murder the former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko in London, UK.
