This may represent genomics, the process of determining the sequences of genes in the human genome (the information that controls and transmits an organism's hereditary characters). The sequence of nucleotide bases in DNA, arranged in discrete segments known as genes, determines the genetic code. Each gene encodes instructions for the construction of a molecule, commonly a protein. Sequencing the genome allows identification of the genes responsible for genetic diseases.
