DNA molecule. Computer artwork of a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) molecule superimposed on a DNA autoradiogram. DNA is composed of two strands twisted into a double helix. Each strand consists of a sugar-phosphate backbone (transparent) attached to nucleotide bases (red, yellow, green and blue). There are four different bases: guanine, cytosine, thymine and adenine. DNA contains sections called genes, which encode the body's genetic information. A DNA autoradiogram shows the sequence of bases in a sample of DNA.
