Ribosomes and mRNA. Computer artwork of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), which consists of groups of three nucleotide bases that code for different amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. At lower right is a representation of ribosomes, which are found in cells (outside of the nucleus) and attach to the mRNA to read this code. The process, called translation, results in the production of a protein.
